A diverse and unique landscape spread East of Lake Vättern. Topography makes the landscape unusually small scaled and variable. Within the distance of only a few kilometres it covers four hardiness zones. Within the Biosphere Reserve the slopes are virtually untouched steep environments closely situated to the well managed pastures and meadows. The Biosphere Reserve also includes everything from largely populated areas to the silent forests.
In the late 1990s, a project called East Vättern Scarp Landscape was initiated. The project aimed to bring together the main actors who in various ways have interest in the landscape resources and values; The Federation of Swedish Farmers, Södra (economic association of forestry), Gränna Forest Group, WWF, Jönköping Municipality, Forest Service and the County Administrative Board of Jönköping.
Together, the actors have agreed upon the following vision for the area: "We are all part of the biosphere." Several projects designed to achieve the vision and disseminate lessons learned have been generated in the area. Welcome to visit our demonstration areas - The pearls of East Vättern Scarp Landscape where practice and knowledge of the sustainable use of nature is demonstrated to the public.
